Meet the Heart Behind Hope Reins
Passionate professionals dedicated to transforming lives through the healing power of horses.
Aubree Sullivan, LCSW
Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Aubree moved to Southern Utah in 1997 and graduated in 2011. She opened her private practice in 2020 and is Certified in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy integration. With years of experience working with trauma and attachment-related issues, she has always had a love for the outdoors, animals, and helping those in need.
"My passion and purpose is to support people on their healing journey. Combining my experiences with others has led me to facilitate Equine Therapy. I started this nonprofit, Hope Reins Healing, to support personal healing and growth.
Harley Bjelland
Raised amid the stunning landscapes of Southern Utah, Harley spent her days embracing the region's natural beauty. Her equine world began with running alongside horses, developing a deep connection with the animals. Driven by a passion for both horses and healing, she developed an equine therapy program at a Southern Utah nonprofit.
Taylor Shelton
Taylor is from Southern California and moved to Utah in 2021, where she began horsemanship and the process of building relationships with horses from different backgrounds. She adopted her own Mustang from the Buttes in Oregon and works towards personal healing and growth.
"I have seen the bond grow between them and the amazing things for the both of them.
Rachel McBride
Rachel provides office support and is deeply involved with Hope Reins Healing. She completed the equine therapy program herself and is an advocate for teenage mental health. Rachel keeps the 'rodeo' of Hope Reins organized as the secretary/treasurer, managing the online presence, tracking data, and helping with quarterly reports.
Our Mission
Hope Reins Healing provides evidence-based, ground-based equine-assisted psychotherapy using rescued Mustangs to transform lives in Southern Utah. We believe in the healing power of the horse-human connection.
Our Vision
A community where everyone has access to transformative mental health support, and where rescued Mustangs find purpose in healing others.
Our Approach
Our ground-based approach means all therapy happens on the ground—no riding required. Participants engage in activities like grooming, leading, and simply being present with our horses. Licensed mental health clinicians facilitate each session, using evidence-based techniques to help participants process emotions, develop insights, and build life skills.
Why Mustangs?
Mustangs are uniquely suited for therapy work. Their wild heritage makes them highly attuned to body language and emotional states. As rescued animals themselves, they model resilience and the possibility of new beginnings. Each of our Mustangs has overcome challenges, making their partnership with participants especially meaningful.
